Base is part of OpenOffice.org. Think of it as the equivalent of Access in Microsoft Office. The interesting thing is that Base enables you to work with your own database created in any any of several database management system including MySQL.
Base uses the HSQL database engine to achieve its work. HSQL looks interesting. I wonder if it will expand and have more uses than just being the database core of the OpenOffice.org suit.
